How does electroplating work in tapware?

- Preparation: The tapware is cleaned and polished to remove any impurities in the metal.
- Electroplating bath: The tapware is submerged in a metal ion solution (which will give it its signature colour).
- Electric current: An electric current is passed through the solution, bonding the metal ions to the tapware’s surface.
- Final coating and sealing: The newly plated tapware is sealed with a protective coating for added durability and shine.
Benefits of electroplated tapware finishes
- Durability: Unlike painted finishes that can chip or fade over time, electroplating has a bonded layer that makes it harder to scratch. It also won’t rust or corrode as easily.
- Even colour: The submersion in the metal ion gives a uniform finish that won’t risk streaking, peeling or unevenness.
- Maintenance: Electroplated tapware's non-porous surface makes it less prone to stains and water spots and is easy to clean.

How to maintain electroplated tapware
- Wipe down your taps regularly with a microfibre cloth to remove any water spots, fingerprints or other debris.
- Once a week, clean with mild, soapy water and avoid scouring sponges and abrasive chemical cleaners that can damage the finish.
- Dry thoroughly to prevent the formation of water stains.
