Inside Marèa: A lesson in cohesive design
Marèa is a home where every material has been chosen to work together. Inspired by relaxed Mediterranean living with a modern Australian feel, Hoven has created a home that feels calm, welcoming and connected through the use of natural stone, warm timber and Antique Brass finishes.
We spoke with Corinne from Hoven about the inspiration behind the project, the material palette that ties every space together and the design decisions that brought Marèa to life.

Inspired by the waterfront
Every project begins with a vision, and for Marèa, it was about creating a home that felt connected to its waterfront setting while remaining warm and welcoming for everyday living. We asked Corinne where the inspiration for the project began.
"Marèa was inspired by relaxed Mediterranean living with a modern Australian feel. We wanted every space to feel calm, timeless and connected to the waterfront, using natural materials and warm, layered finishes."
That vision became the foundation for every decision that followed. Rather than relying on bold design statements, the home draws its character from natural materials, layered textures and a restrained palette that creates a sense of warmth throughout.

A material palette that flows
One of the first things you'll notice about Marèa is how naturally each room connects to the next. While every space has its own purpose, there is a consistent thread running throughout the home. Corinne explained that this was intentional from the very beginning.
"We started with a simple palette of natural stone, warm timber and soft neutral tones, then layered texture rather than colour. Each room has its own personality, but the consistent materials create a seamless flow throughout the home."
Rather than introducing new colours throughout the home, the design relies on repeating a small number of materials. Texture provides variation, allowing each space to feel distinct while remaining connected to the overall design. The result is a home that feels cohesive without feeling repetitive, with each room flowing naturally into the next.

Choosing the right finishes
With the material palette established, every finish needed to feel like a natural extension of the overall design. That made Yabby's Antique Brass tapware the perfect fit.
"Yabby's Antique Brass finish perfectly complemented our natural palette. Its refined, understated design enhances the spaces without competing with the stone and timber, allowing the materials to take centre stage."
Used consistently throughout the kitchen and bathrooms, Antique Brass introduces warmth while sitting comfortably alongside the surrounding timber and stone. It complements the overall palette while bringing consistency from one space to the next.

Balancing beauty with everyday living
Creating a home that balanced luxury with everyday functionality was one of the biggest challenges throughout the project. We asked Corinne how the team approached striking that balance.
"The biggest challenge was balancing luxury with everyday functionality. We focused on thoughtful planning, concealed storage and flexible living spaces so the home feels both beautiful and practical."
It's a reminder that thoughtful design isn't just about how a home looks, but how it supports the people living in it every day.

A lesson worth borrowing
Every project leaves behind ideas that homeowners can take into their own renovations. When we asked Corinne what advice she'd share with anyone building or renovating, her answer was refreshingly simple.
"Choose a small number of quality materials and repeat them consistently throughout the home. A cohesive palette will always feel more timeless than following short-term trends."
Whether you're updating a single bathroom or designing an entire home, limiting your material palette and repeating key finishes is one of the simplest ways to create spaces that feel connected. It's an approach that allows the materials to do the talking and creates a home that will feel just as relevant in years to come.
