Lydia Maskiell Laundry Project

The Laundry that ticks all the boxes

Here at Yabby, we absolutely love a Laundry makeover. There’s just something magical about transforming an average room into a streamlined, stylish space that reflects the homeowner's unique tastes and preferences.

A laundry renovation is an investment for a future of simplified washing days with more organised storage options and, of course, easy-on-the-eye interiors. Small laundry renovations are also a relatively affordable option for those looking to dip their feet in home renovations and learn a lot along the way.

We recently shared Lydia Maskiell’s stacked laundry on our Instagram , and it seems you guys love it as much as we do! Lydia’s European-style laundry features deep green cabinetry, a space-saving stacked appliance design, and a spacious sink with our Antique Brass Round Kitchen Mixer.

Lydia Maskiell is an interior designer in Tasmania who founded an award-winning interior design studio and recently won Tasmanian Designer of the Year. Lydia spoke to Adore Magazine about the gorgeous European-style laundry she had completed for a client, which was featured in Adore Magazines June Winter edition.

While Lydia was in charge of all things interiors, she had a team that helped bring the vision together. Working closely with Alex Lukacs from Framed Renovations for the build, Impact Kitchens took care of the joinery, and the amazing photos were shot by Mark Zeidler at Coastpark  Creative.

Lydia told Adore Magazine, “The space wasn’t utilised to its full potential, as there was a lot of wasted space with the cupboard depth. The client wanted a laundry space closer to the main living quarters, which was the perfect opportunity to explore the deep, forgotten cupboard off the hallway.”

This laundry renovation perfectly blends style and functionality. The once underutilised linen cupboard off the hallway has been transformed into a chic, European-style laundry that maximises every inch of the compact 1m x 1.5m space. According to Lydia, making the most of a small space is an essential component of small laundry renovations.

Lydia also mentioned the following small laundry renovation advice in her Adore interview:

“With a width of 1.5m, a stacked washing machine and dryer was a great option, allowing us to use the remainder of the space for a sink and pull-out hampers. We had more depth than the normal 600mm to play with, which we used to create more storage with a shallow ledge at the back of the sink bench. As the laundry joinery is housed in a closet, open storage was more useful and an opportunity to display decorative baskets.”

We love the way she took charge of the small space and was able to implement so many usable elements. Making use of a stacked laundry is ideal for a smaller laundry, offering a clutter-free and organised appearance. It also allowed for extra floor space to fit the spacious laundry sink.

The deep forest green cabinetry creates an eye-catching contrast against the crisp white walls, creating a clean and inviting atmosphere — perfect for a laundry room. The use of woven baskets on the open shelves adds a touch of warmth and texture to the space while also offering practical storage solutions for laundry essentials.

The star of the show, in our humble opinion (ahem), is the Yabby Antique Brass Round Kitchen Mixer, which adds a touch of vintage appeal to the laundry. The warm hue of the mixer perfectly complements the green cabinetry, creating a cohesive look.

This European-style laundry is proof that even the smallest spaces can be turned into functional and stylish areas with the right design approach. We can take a page from Lydia’s book by maximising storage, using high-quality finishes and paying attention to the small details.
